Jury Decisions

Survey progress: 1%

You are invited to participate in a moderated focus group about supports that have been put in place to help jurors make decisions in criminal trials for adult sexual assault cases. During participation, you will be asked to listen to a recording of a fictional case, listen to a recording of some instructions which can be given by a judge in a criminal trial for sexual assault and then listen to a recording and discuss some additional evidence about the offence. In the materials you will be shown, an adult female complainant alleges that a male defendant sexually assaulted her. The complainant and defendant have a prior relationship. Please note that the materials that you will be asked to view in the focus group will contain descriptive details of the alleged sexual assault offences.

You will be asked to answer several surveys which canvas your beliefs and knowledge about how sexual violence occurs, how people respond to sexual violence and your perceptions of the fictional case. The focus group discussion you participate in will be audio and video recorded. The audio and video recordings will be transcribed and analysed with the survey responses for this research project. You will be asked to provide consent to complete the surveys and you will
be asked to provide written consent to being recorded prior to participation.

These groups will run for 3 hours and in appreciation of your time you will receive a $200 eGift voucher.
